I was in my fourth year in advertising when I wrote this ad. The desire to win awards was very strong. The winds of scam were raging, and not wanting to be left behind, I unfurled my sail and went along. Public service was a popular category, and within it, anti-tobacco communication. Fortunately for me, I had Devesh Desai to work with, and his art direction took this ad places. Cannes, New York and a few other cities which ran award shows and peddled hard bound annual compilations to us suckers.
